A Settlement and a Previous Manor House
The area of which Old Fallings Hall sits on is shrouded in history. A previous manor house, said to be dating from the post medieval period, stood upon the grounds of which the present Old Fallings Hall stands on, which may suggest why there is a possibly earlier section to when the hall was supposedly built in 1720 (or rebuilt) and then modified/rebuilt in 1840. This conclusion is supported by evidence from records of baronetcy of the Gough family, stating that Old Fallings House was bought in the 1500's. It is believed that Old Fallings was a medieval settlement, and perhaps the manor house belongs to this period instead. Unfortunately, however, archaeological work that took place on the site resulted in no findings as the ground was far too disturbed for anything to have survived. I believe this may have been due to the hall being rebuilt, and any evidence of earlier settlement was destroyed in the process.
