A House for Sale
After many, many years of family inheritance of Old Fallings Hall, it fell upon Sir Richard Arthur Surtees Paget to come to the decision of selling the house. So far, I have found no evidence in the Wolverhampton Archives, after searching the whole database with a researcher, as to why Sir Richard Paget sold Old Fallings Hall. However, the researcher had come to the conclusion that he probably sold Old Fallings Hall and all of his Midlands estates to pay off the death duty on his father’s (Sir Richard Horner Paget) estate. This is because some time after 1908 (his father’s death), Sir Richard Paget divided up all of his father’s land (places like Old Fallings farm and farmhouse which was sold in 1916) and sold it in lots. Old Fallings Hall was lot 10 and was sold in 1925. A family treasure had been sold, and was to become something far different. The long lasting family inheritence of Old Fallings Hall, built by Sir Richard Paget's ancestors, had ended forever. A sad story indeed.
